Choose Joy

This story is about a time not so long ago when I chose to have joy in a situation where things were going against me.

It was the first day at my brand new school and I was eager to see who was going to be in my class. During the summer, my mom was telling me, “There are only 2 classes. The worst possible case scenario is that you wouldn’t be put with any of your friends and what are the chances that you wouldn’t be put with any of your 10 or so friends?”

So I was pretty hopeful.

I walked into the school and got completely lost. A high schooler had to put me in the right direction and I was completely embarrassed! Once I got to where I needed to be I waited eagerly for them to call out the classes. “Kingston . . . Phoebe . . . GABRIELLA LEACH!”

None of my 10 friends were in my class.

The rest of the day went by very slowly.

When I walked out at the end of the day I said to my mom, “The worst possible case scenario happened.” My mom comforted me and said, “Well what are the chances that that would happen? God must have a very special plan for you.”

I made a choice that I was going to choose joy even though I didn’t naturally want to and sure enough, by the next week I had a variety of new friends.
